Skaven FAQ

Postby Elazar The Glorified » Tue Mar 09, 2010 1:56 pm

The Skaven FAQ is up here

A lot of pages of errata there, quite poorly done by GW that!
It's a fairly good FAQ though. Still a few unanswered questions but a lot less than some of the more recent FAQs have left!

well most of the errata stuff is obvious... you can kind of tell from the wording changes how some people were 'interpreting' the rules as written...

as for the FAQs..:

- yay for the plague censers indeed not nobbling my stegadons as i thought :P

- i feel kind of sorry for the furnace/bell, 0LD eh? say hello to the blade of realities (for each hit you must make a leadership test on your own, unmodified leadership value or die with no saves of any kind.....)

- gotta try and set up some amusing flees with the abomination/doomwheel rolling over half the skaven army with impact hits :D

- interesting clarity on the censer bearers LD, though i cant really see them loosing many combats other than where they've all died to impact hits anyway.

oh, and i like you can stand and shoot with the doomrocket, that simply must be tried!

I like the fact PCB's are better. So now the second rank of charged units are taking toughness tests as well.... I must bring the errata on Sunday!

Where does it say that? I'm pretty sure you've misinterperated that. Are we going to need an errata for the errata? Also, for a second there I totally thought "Printed Circuit Boards".

the bit he's getting at being:

Page 46, Plague Censer, third paragraph, first
sentence.
‘[…] all models (friend and foe) in base contact
with one or more models bearing a plague censer
must take a Toughness test […].’
will be changed to:
‘[…] all models fighting with a plague censer, and
any model (friend and foe) in base contact with one
or more models fighting with a plague censer, must
take a Toughness test
[…].’

i agree poorly worded, but i think the intent and wording (depend on how you read it...) is still that models in base-to-base take the T tests.

it;s the difference between:
a: fighting with a plague censer (as in using one)
b: fighting with a plague censer bearer (as in bashing a skaven)
... and to think, all we're trying to do is play with toy soilders ...

There's good things and bad things there. The Doomwheel has 360 charge arc, and the stormbanner is definitely one shot ( as I thought). And Yes, Michael, you do deserve a sad trombone for thinking that one. :P

This is what completley forks me off with GW, 1st they bring out an expensive book that was written by a drunk baboon and not proof read or play tested by anyone other than his inbred decendents. To add insult to injury they then try to address it by giving the baboon another couple of vodkas and a type writer, then locking him in a room until he comes up with something else.

‘[…] all models fighting with a plague censer, and
any model (friend and foe) in base contact with one
or more models fighting with a plague censer, must
take a Toughness test […].’

This says plague censer, is this the weapon or the model, again as ambiguos as ever.

Damn it! Now I have to go and cry. Although at least people agree it's badly worded. FAQ for the FAQ anyone?

can you hear that GW its the sound of no one clapping.....

I mean imagine if it happened for other books, you buy the latest James Patterson and 2 weeks later he 'patchs'it with the spelling corrections and some better wording.

I'd rather have more errata's sooner than none at all. I'm actually quite pleased with this errata as for the most part it deals with clarifications and grammar which is the kind of thing that shuts BS rule-lawyers the hell down in a hurry. For which I'm glad. Some of the stuff is a bit wonky but it's not like the Daemons book where all the errata were insane buffs to an already powerful army. Or Warriors where it was all nerfs. (Cry).

I'd still be happier if the doomwheel and especially hellpit just moved like normal monsters with a random movement. The 360 charge arc thing makes the 12 inches around the hellpit into a nightmare vortex of agony (and the 18" are pretty risky too). It allows it to threaten just a HUGE area on the table top which is just way nastier than I think GW realise.

I recently joined the county library, having spent 5 years complaining about the waste of tax etc, I finally went in there to find out what it was all about. I came out with 2 books on WW2 and a Space marine battles novel 'Rynns World' ( I wish I had gone in there sooner it may have put Waterstones out of business). Whilst the novel is ok, the grammar and spelling are nearly as bad as my posts. This seems to be the standard for GW

I would submit that if the spelling and grammar is bad then the novel is not ok.

The typos are no worse than the army books, now instead of not for example, or their instead of there. But yes I agree, not what you want from a novel (or even a pamphlet)

is there a Blood Angels, Orks or Warriors of Chaos one??

the only one i've read is Ravenor, and that was very good, kinda like reading a necromunda/dark heresy campaign
