HAIL CAESAR is a Warlord Games rule set, designed by Rick Priestly primarily for 28mm Historical wargames replicating large battles. It fully encompasses the Ancient period from the very first battles around the Mediterranean to the High Medieval period in Europe prior to the introduction of massed firearms.

The rules have been with us for a decade and some without change. Reason being, writing and principles of the rule set were expertly trialed, edited, presented in a wonderful hard backed book and supported with numerous army lists, supplements, period specific rules and scenarios.

A standard Force will consist of three divisions of four units plus attached skirmishers and/or artillery with each division sporting a commander who is responsible for orders to the units of his own division. One of these commanders is elevated to the position of General who can do the same to his division or any other division in the force if he so chooses. You don't shoot at or fight commanders, rather they run a risk of injury whenever in the vicinity of any ruckus. The play system encourages multi-player involvement.

A standard army works out around 300 points with a balanced force of 12 mixed quality units plus skirmishers or artillery piece. Skirmisher/artillery units are restricted in most forces up to a quarter of the division as they can effect a game well beyond their points cost.
Once familiar with the rules, a game will typically last around 2 hours.

Play the game with good will and open play where conflict is resolved amicably and fairly so that everyone has a good time will reward the participants with the thrills and spills of a right good game.

As an re-introduction to the Blyth Wargamers Club, on Sunday 21st October 2018 Hail Caesar will return.
