Just a note to clear up the details about this event.
We are open 12 hours, 9am to 9pm to be exact. However you do not have to attend for the whole 12 hours.
We are offering an opertunity for players to come and have some fun in larger games without haveing to think about time restrictions.
If you only want to attend for 4 hours, then come along and play anytime within the time schedual that is offered.

The whole idea is to have fun and make some money for charity.

I hope we can enjoy this as it was designed to be, a fun day with more play.

The game between david and mike is set at 13,000 points each side, so i think that will only get to about turn two in the
12 hours of the day.

I hope that we can get another two apoc games going.
I had wanted to feature a kursk style tank battle with each player feilding about 4/5,000 pionts each. I seem to have a problem getting this sorted as getting any player to sign up is almost imposable.
The games will start about 10ish. I will be there from about 9am to set up and will be staying until 9pm to shut it all down.

Remember the subs for the day will be £3, but all of the subs will go to the "Help the heroes" charity which we are backing.

Just let me know who wants to play, and who wants to help.

The set up is:-
Ian on one table with the planet "p" scenario, which is 2,000 points imperium forces have to hold out for 3 turns until an evac ship can pick them up. A force of 4,000 points of nids will roll towards them deep striking on turn 2 with some nasties.
Anyone who wants in let us know, and with luck this could be played out more than once on the day.

I will run my previously detailed city fight with 4 player space available.

A kursk style battle with lots of armour will take place on another table with overuning the enemy, which means wipe as many of the enemy off the table and seize their bases. Each person will have a main base and two supply bases and the other player will have to take the bases without loseing their own supply base or, with the loss of all their supply bases they will only be able to last to the end of their next turn with their armours fuel.

I hope that someone can go with the titan battle as rou=gue may not be attending as rumour has it.

Any other games anyone wants to see?

Well brian, if you fancy a few games of FOW. I'll happily play some 1000 point games with you. If I could borrow some shermans. Mine won't have arrived or be ready in time!

All sound good. I might be there at 9 if my hangover is willing. Need to disappear about 12.30. But that all sounds good.

I was very sad to have such a low turnout for this event being all the subs were for the charity.
I suppose not everyone feels the need to support help the heroes charity.

It was a pity as we only had 2 big games running, but the fow boys had two games and enjoyed them both.

We were open the full 12 hours and a chance to play one or more normal games was missed, still i was glad to be part of the group supporting a worthwhile charity.

Well I got a very enjoyable game of FoW under my belt and have to say I enjoyed it thouroughly. It was nice to finish later and have a chance to pretty much finish a game. We played around 2k points too which was a nice change. It was good we raised a bit for charity as well, so thanks all who turned up. :)

even if darren did use his shermans as armour 7 ;) lol. IT was nice to get a big game in, and use a really nice big board with lots of terrain. I really cant wait until we have a bit more terrain and everyones armies are finished as it will look truely stunning!

glad to know my subs this week are going to a good cause too. thanks to bob for organising this. pity the manta didnt turn up, I was looking forward to pwning it ;)

I've got to question the disappointment expressed , but hopefully constructively.

Firstly, the time of year, perhaps summer holiday time wasn't the best, although I can see why it was arranged for the holidays

Secondly, the name, 12 hour day, implies that people must come for the 12 hours. I know that it wasn't meant to be that, but perhaps a slight change of emphasis ( Come along day, Open Day, Extended Hours Day etc ) may tempt not only regulars but new members

I wouldn't say that members didn't want to support the charity. Our members would support any charity that the club chooses, it's just that they didn't turn up for this day.

I turned up for only a couple of hours, didn't play, but happily paid my money to the charity.

The non-attenders don't realise that in the long run, they are paying for yesterday. The rent will not come from the subs taken on the day, but from club funds which are made over the year. So, very much indirectly, the members did support the day through their overall suport for the club over the year.

Finally, a "Well done" for Bob. Despite my views as stated, we have got to thank Bob for the thought, and effort involved. I look forward to the next one.

I'd be happy to pay what I'd have paid in subs to the charity Bob. I'm sure a collection tin going round at the club could raise quite a few extra pennies for the charity too!

Something I'm not so happy about is how every event at the minute is followed up by complaints and people trying to guilt everyone who couldn't attend!

dad orkboss wrote:I suppose not everyone feels the need to support help the heroes charity.

Sentences like this one don't really contribute anything but bad feeling. Nobody has said they don't want to support Help The Heroes but not everybody can attend every session and not everybody wants to ultimately! It's a hobby and shouldn't be made to feel like a chore for people! There was the same thing after the first Friday session. Speaking to the club's members this way after every event isn't going to encourage them to attend the next one!

Anyway, rant over! Well done to those who were able to attend and organised/played games and gave to the charity! :)

The reason i was dissapointed was the fact that i think we set a record for the lowest attendance i have seen in the 2 years i have been attending the club with only 14 people at the club.

I can understand the fact that it is the holiday season, and i said about lack of support for the charity as i know there are some who for political reasons feel that they cannot support the charity.
They have the right to exersise non attendance, and i have no problem with this.

It is unfortunate that this year there has been a touch of apathy towards events. I think this may be due to event overload dwith the number of events happening.
I hope we will get a few more people signing up for patches two day tourny.
If you feel that it is too hard to find £15 in one payment then talk to patch, i dare say he would be happy to take three payments of £5. This should help those who cannot afford to pull out the full amount in one lump.

The 12 hour day was explained to many of our members as a chance to play in one of several large games, or just come in and enjoy your normal sized games.
An excellent oppertunity to play without fear of running out of time was missed, and may never be given again.

As i explained before, my comments about the first friday were made due to the fact that a few people who were going to attend, didnt due to variouse reasons which lead to dissapointment with those who did being dissapointed due to the fact that they had hoped to have a game with the missing members. I know that life gets in the way, but i had hoped thing would be better.
This friday will probably be the last as it is loseing money and i dont expect the club to keep supporting it out of the cash pot. I think money would be better spent on the scenery and other things we need.
We will try with the summer fridays again next year, but next time with a lot more advanced advertiseing.
